  • Author: Audrey

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, frozen
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter discard
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  2. Grate frozen butter into the dry ingredients with a cheese grater and  combine with a pastry cutter, two forks, or your fingers until the mixture comes together in pea-sized crumbs. Add in the mix-ins and stir to coat with flour. Place in the refrigerator or freezer as you mix the wet ingredients together.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the sourdough starter, egg, vanilla, and heavy cream.
  4. Fold the wet ingredients into the flour mixture. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
  5. On a clean, lightly floured surface, roll the dough out into a circle about 8” in diameter. Cut the circle into 8 equal parts.
  6. Place on a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper about 2” apart.
  7. Put in the fridge for 30 minutes or up to 3 days.
  8. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 400°.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
