I’m scheduling this to post while I’m overseas on a multi-country international vacation. I plan to be enjoying myself fully. But at the end of a long trip… there’s also nothing like coming home! And there’s no better way to feel American than to go to a foreign country. So scheduling this post for my time out of the country felt like good timing. (I also made these for my brother, who is doing house check-ins while I’m gone, and Bomb Pop is one of his favorite flavors. I hope the house is doing okay!)
I have been talking with my family about how there hasn’t been much of a fuss about the whole fact that America is turning 250 years old this year! There were a few things at the start of the year, but decidedly less as we approach the actual birthday. It’s nearly a month away, people!
At least the Nabisco corporation has their head in the game. They are locked in. Providing us with firecracker Oreos. Has there ever been a more American invention? Yes there has. It’s called The Constitution of the United States.
But I also think that pretty high on the list in terms of American innovation is these Oreos. I aimed to build on that innovation, and threw together these Firecracker Oreo Truffles. What is more American than stacking innovation together? I’ll wait.
I don’t have anything to say about the America 250 celebration that has not been said or will not be said. It’s a bummer that politics and civic engagement in this country feel so incredibly fraught right now. I’d like to spend the 250 celebration focusing on all the ways the country has succeeded. I am bracing for all those hoity-toity Opinion Pieces. Oh well.
Right now, when this posts, I’m probably feeling incredibly American in a foreign country, wondering where the firecracker Oreos are. And in a few weeks, I’ll be spending the 250 in a part of the country that’s new to me, and I think there’s no better way to celebrate a country as vast and diverse as America.
