Surprise, surprise, I had to do another carrot drink, because I have these glasses, and I bought a lot of carrot juice. As much as I like carrots, I’m not drinking carrot juice plain. So why not make it in to a smoothie? That’s got the same spices as carrot cake? Delicious way to start your morning.
I so rarely get vegetables at breakfast. I can really pack them in for lunch and dinner, so I don’t think I’m deficient in my vegetable intake. But a serving of vegetables before 8am? Incredible. I am the epitome of health. Get on my level.
The only other breakfast foods that incorporate vegetables are omelets, and I can’t say I consistently make those. So carrot cake smoothies it is.
You could probably really amp this up into a carrot cake smoothie if you have a cake batter protein powder, which I’m sure exists somewhere. My current take is that we have taken protein too far, as a society. It’s great to get a lot of protein. But now it’s in everything and it is just so exhausting. THe protein powder aisle has 37 different flavors that all cost $50 per jug. There’s protein popcorn now?? I wanted to scream when I saw that at the store. Then I learned a few days later that it’s owned by a Kardashian, and I actually did groan, because I was home and wouldn’t attract attention for screaming in a grocery store.
You cannot convince me that the protein in that popcorn is… real.
It’s just like when vitamins and supplements – why eat those when you can eat… a carrot? Or a salad? How much are you actually getting out of a vitamin that gives you 3000% of your vitamin C? How much are you actually getting out of a protein bar with 37g of protein, bringing your daily intake for 470g? Unless you’re training for a body building competition, I’m just skeptical that all that fake protein can possibly be healthy.

So while I’ll still partake in the occasional Quest bar if I’m in a rush, I’m generally trying to not eat as much fake protein! It’s my mini protest against insane food trends. I’ll stick to Greek yogurt and tofu and chicken. I will eat popcorn that is popcorn and not mysteriously filled with protein.
All this to say… this carrot cake smoothie gets its protein from Greek yogurt, but you can add protein powder if you want! It may even improve the “carrot cake” nature of it. But I can’t confirm!
